STUDENT INTERNS

The Office of New Student & Leadership Programs offers four student internships. Each student intern reports to a Program Coordinator for New Student & Leadership Programs and assists with the marketing, promotion, coordination, and implementation of orientation and transition programs for new students, leadership development programs and initiatives, and student staff recruitment, selection, and training.

Applications for 2021-22 interns will open in March. 

WAVE LEADERS

Every year, Wave Leaders support the orientation & transition of new students throughout New Student Orientation and Fall Welcome. Each Wave Leader works closely with a small group of students to familiarize them with life at Tulane and offer guidance and support throughout their transition to college. Perks include early move-in, swag, and access to special events.

TRANSFER MENTORS

Transfer Mentors serve as a resource for transfer students throughout Transfer Student Orientation, Fall Welcome, and the fall semester. These students will work with the Transfer Student Experience Intern employed by the Office of the New Student & Leadership Programs to coordinate the Transfer Mentor Program. Responsibilities for this volunteer position include facilitating transfer orientation small groups, planning the transfer student welcome event, and coordinating each transfer student mentor meeting throughout the fall semester. Transfer Mentors will work closely with incoming students to familiarize them with life at Tulane and offer guidance and support throughout their transition to college.

COMMUTER MENTORS

Commuter Mentors serve as a resource for commuter students throughout New Student Orientation, Fall Welcome, and the fall semester. Responsibilities for this volunteer position include facilitating orientation small groups and coordinating each commuter student mentor meeting throughout the fall semester. Commuter Mentors will work closely with incoming students to familiarize them with life at Tulane and offer guidance and support throughout their transition to college.

EMERGING LEADERS MENTOR

The Emerging Leaders Mentor position is a volunteer leadership position that supports the transition and retention of first-year and transfer students participating in Emerging Leaders throughout the fall semester. EL Mentors serve as a resource for all EL participants and will develop and present leadership curriculum during weekly meetings. Additionally, EL Mentors will aid in the recruitment and selection of the Emerging Leaders cohorts, lead small group discussion, plan weekly meetings, and conduct end of semester check-ins with EL participants.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Board of Directors support the learning and development of first-year students in contributing to students' orientation and transition to the Tulane community. Board of Directors collaborate closely with professional staff to plan and execute New Student Orientation (NSO). As a team of student leaders, the Board of Directors oversee the recruitment, selection, training, development, and supervision of Wave Leaders. This is a highly selective leadership position that requires students to demonstrate exceptional work ethic, supervision ability, and a blend of high-energy leadership, problem solving abilities, diverse involvement, and detail-oriented performance.
