STUDENT INTERNS

The Office of New Student & Leadership Programs offers four student internships for the 2018 – 2019 academic year. Each student intern reports to a Program Coordinator for New Student & Leadership Programs and assists with the marketing, promotion, coordination, and implementation of orientation and transition programs for new students, leadership development programs and initiatives, and student staff recruitment, selection, and training.

The four (4) internship positions available for 2018 – 2019:

  • Marketing & Outreach Intern
  • Orientation & First-Year Student Leadership Development Intern
  • Leadership Programs Intern
  • Transfer Experience Intern

WAVE LEADERS

Wave Leaders support the orientation and transition of new students throughout New Student Orientation (NSO) and Fall Welcome. Wave Leaders are assigned to specific residence halls and serve as small group leaders throughout orientation and the first few weeks of the fall semester serving as new students’ “anchors” on campus. Wave Leaders work closely with incoming students to familiarize them with life at Tulane and offer guidance and support throughout their transition to college. The position is volunteer but Wave Leaders enjoy the perks of early move-in to the residence halls, an overnight training retreat, access to special events, and free swag.

The Wave Leader position description and application will be released on February 1, 2019. 


TRANSFER MENTORS

Transfer Mentors serve as a resource for transfer students throughout Transfer Student Orientation, Fall Welcome, and the fall semester. These students will work with the Transfer Student Experience Intern employed by the Office of the New Student & Leadership Programs to coordinate the Transfer Mentor Program. Responsibilities for this volunteer position include facilitating transfer orientation small groups, planning the transfer student welcome event, and coordinating each transfer student mentor meeting throughout the fall semester. Transfer Mentors will work closely with incoming students to familiarize them with life at Tulane and offer guidance and support throughout their transition to college.

EMERGING LEADERS PROGRAM MENTOR

The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) Mentor position is a volunteer leadership position that supports the transition and retention of first-year and transfer students participating in the Emerging Leaders Program throughout the fall semester. ELP Mentors serve as a resource for all ELP participants and will develop and present leadership curriculum during weekly meetings. Additionally, ELP Mentors will aid in the recruitment and selection of Emerging Leaders Program cohorts, lead small group discussion, plan weekly meetings, and conduct end of semester check-ins with ELP participants.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Board of Directors support the learning and development of first-year students in contributing to students' orientation and transition to the Tulane community. Board of Directors collaborate closely with professional staff to plan and execute New Student Orientation (NSO). As a team of student leaders, the Board of Directors oversee the recruitment, selection, training, development, and supervision of 100 Wave Leaders. A total of 8 Directors will be selected. Directors will each be responsible for planning and implementing a specific NSO event and sit on various orientation committees with professional staff. This is a highly selective leadership position with a stipend that requires students to demonstrate exceptional work ethic, supervision ability, and a blend of high-energy leadership, problem solving abilities, diverse involvement, and detail-oriented performance.
