Use the Checklist to plan for your first semester at Tulane. Many of the checklist items can be completed in advance. Some checklist items have a limited window or will not be available until a later date this summer, so be sure to check back periodically for updates. Review the entire checklist now so you can plan ahead. Most items are encouraged, while some are required.
___ Check your Tulane email regularly. The Navigator E-Newsletters come out on the 1st and 15th of each month beginning May 15 and are full of great information and resources to guide you over the summer. [Required]
___ Review the 2019 New Student Guide to learn more about campus departments, resources, and helpful tips as you prepare for your arrival in August. The Guide will be released at the end of May. [Required]
___ Read this year’s Reading Project book, Vengeance, by Zachary Lazar. You may wish to purchase the book from the Barnes & Noble university bookstore. [Required]
___ Connect with your classmates on the Class of 2023 Facebook page.
___ Add an authorized user (parent or guardian) to your student account and grant access to eBills, recent account activity, and electronic payment options. Make sure you check out the Accounts Receivable New Student Checklist!
___ Visit our First-Year Involvement Opportunities webpage to read more about the many programs for mentorship in your first year: Newcomb College Institute’s Big/Little Sister and Town Mom Programs, The O Peer Mentoring Program, the International Student Mentorship Program (TU Pals), and TUlinked.
___ Before CAST: Complete the Online Language Placement Form to register for foreign language classes during your advising appointment. Visit the Language Learning Center website for more information. Note: Some students will be prompted by email to take an additional Avant placement test after completing the placement form. Be sure to complete the Avant test if you are directed to do so. [Required]
___ Review the Academic Honor Code so you’re prepared for the start of fall classes. [Required]
___ May 8: Deadline to complete your housing application or Residential Learning Community application by signing your Housing Agreement in the Housing Portal system. Beginning June 4 and through June 14, you will be able to preference a specific roommate. [Use your Gibson Online username and password]. [Required]
___ Sign up for a session of CAST (Cultivating Academic Success at Tulane) to register for fall courses and learn more about academic success at Tulane. Sessions runs June 7 through June 24. Students may register for an in-person or virtual session. [Required]
___ Request reasonable accommodations and submit documentation with the Goldman Center for Student Accessibility via accessibility.tulane.edu. Review the Guidelines for Documentation for more information. Have questions? Schedule a meeting with the Goldman Center staff remotely (by Zoom video chat or by phone) or in person.
___ Check the Financial Aid website to review necessary steps to assure timely delivery of your aid (including merit scholarships). You’ll also want to submit any outside scholarships received to Financial Aid. [Required]
___ June 1: Check your Tulane email for health insurance requirements and details about the health insurance action process, which begins June 1. Information about how to enroll in the Tulane-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (T-SHIP) will be sent by United Healthcare Student Resources (UHCSR). Information about how to opt out of T-SHIP by submitting a waiver request will be sent by Gallagher Student Health and Special Risk. [Required]
___ June 4 – 14: Finalize your roommate profile and preference your preferred roommate(s) for your housing application in the Housing Portal. [Use your Gibson Online login information].
___ June 30: Deadline to sign up for your meal plan. Review the meal plan options and sign up HERE.
___ July 1: Make changes to your class schedule beginning today at 8 AM. Consult with your academic advisor if you have specific questions about courses.
___ July 1: Deadline to submit your final high school transcript to the Office of Undergraduate Admission. [Required]
___ July 15: Complete your Student Evacuation Plan in Gibson Online (under the Services section) so your family can be prepared in the event of a weather emergency [Required]
___ July 15: Check your Tulane email for instructions on completing three online learning modules to learn more information about All In: Tulane's commitment to stop all sexual violence, Tulane University Police Department resources, and how to effectively prepare for emergencies at Tulane. [Required]
___ If ongoing mental health concerns have been identified prior to coming to Tulane, including ADHD and other psychiatric medication needs, the CAPS Care Coordinator will help you find appropriate treatment support for a New Orleans community provide who can offer consistent care over an extended time.
___ Mid-July: Check your Tulane email this week for your housing assignment from Housing and Residence Life. You will also receive information regarding your move-in time and move-in instructions.
___ Mid-July: Check your Tulane email for instructions on completing two required, health education courses. You have until August 20 to finish these online courses! [Required]
___ July 26: Deadline to submit your info and class photo for the 2019 Tulane University New Student Book.
___ July 26: Log into Gibson Online to view your tuition and fees bill beginning today. Your tuition bill must be paid by August 15.
___ August 1: Download the Tulane Orientation App to view the New Student Orientation & Fall Welcome schedules for all Android and iOS devices. New Student Orientation programming runs from August 21– 25 and Fall Welcome programming runs from August 26 – September 8. Search Tulane Orientation in the App Store and Google Play. [Required]
___ August 1: Deadline to either enroll in the Tulane-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (T-SHIP) or opt out of the T-SHIP by submitting a waiver request. You must take action by August 1, 2019 to avoid being automatically charged for and enrolled in T-SHIP. Visit campushealth.tulane.edu/insurance for more information. [Required]
___ August 1: First Year Support Video Series is available. The video series offers additional information about resources available through Student Conduct and Support Services.
___ August 9: Deadline to submit a photo for your Tulane Splash Card (Student ID) through Gibson Online. You need your Splash Card to check into your residence hall on Move-In Day. Avoid the lines on Move-In Day by submitting a photo in advance and pick up your card when you check into your residence hall. Follow the step by step instructions HERE. [Required]
___ Review the Move-In Packet from Housing & Residence Life to obtain your move-in time, parking permit, and more! [Required]
___ Check your mail at your permanent home address (and Tulane email) the first week of August for your campus mailbox number and shipping labels and instructions. [Required]
___ Ship any needed items to campus using the labels and instructions from Mail Services.
___ August 15: Check out studentorgs.tulane.edu to learn about the 250+ Recognized Student Organizations at Tulane!
___ August 15: Fall Tuition Bill Due. Log into Gibson Online to view and pay your Student Account bill. [Required]
___ Attend mandatory International Student Orientation on August 20 if you’re attending Tulane this fall on a student visa. Other international undergraduate students (non-F-1/J-1)and U.S. citizens or permanent resident who grew up abroad are invited but not required to attend.
___ August 20: Deadline to complete the online wellness education courses (sexual violence and alcohol modules). [Required]
___ August 20: Deadline to complete the three online learning modules to learn about All In: Tulane's commitment to stop all sexual violence, Tulane University Police Department resources, and how to effectively prepare for emergencies at Tulane. [Required]
___ August 21: Move-In Day. Unpack, get settled, and join your classmates that evening for our kick-off to New Student Orientation! NSO runs Wednesday, August 21 through Sunday, August 25. [Required]
___ August 26: Review the Fall Welcome Schedule! Fall Welcome programming runs August 26 through September 8.
___ Download Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, One Note and 1 terabyte of storage space) for FREE for your laptop or PC. Students have access to all software and storage while enrolled at Tulane.
___ Consider completing the Authorization to Release Educational Records form to grant your parent or guardian access to your educational records. This form must be turned in IN PERSON to each respective office. You can turn this form in during your first week on campus.
___ Order your textbooks through Gibson Online from the Barnes & Noble university bookstore.
___ If you’re applying for an on-campus job, review the list of required documentation to complete your I-9 verification and make sure you bring to campus to avoid any delays with job placement.
___ Not registered to vote? Utilize Tulane's TurboVote resource to register to vote, apply for an absentee ballot, and receive election reminders.
