New Student Checklist


Use the TU Spring Checklist to plan for your first semester at Tulane. Many of the checklist items can be completed in advance. Some items have a limited window or will not be available until a later date this fall. Review the entire checklist now so you can plan ahead. Download a pdf of the checklist here. Most items are encouraged, while some are required.

Financial Aid and University Records:

___ Apply for Financial Aid: To apply for federal aid, complete a FAFSA, and to apply for need-based scholarship from Tulane, complete a CSS Profile and send tax documentation.

___ Check for missing financial aid items (which may be incremental) by logging into Gibson Online Financial Aid and checking the Student Requirements tab.

___ Elect if you wish to grant your parent or guardian access to your Tulane financial information. Once each account is created, authorized users will have access to view electronic billing statements, view account activity & history, and access electronic payment options. Authorized users will receive direct billing notifications by email when new statements are available.

___ Discuss with your family completing the Authorization to Release Educational Records form to grant your parent or guardian access to your educational records. Turn in these forms IN PERSON when you arrive to campus in January.

___ Enter your preferred name and pronouns for course rosters through Gibson Online or at the Office of the Registrar.

___ January 15: Spring Tuition Bill Due. Tulane Accounts Receivable bills are paid through Gibson Online on the Billing tab. View your bill beginning December 15. REQUIRED


___ Check your Tulane email regularly! REQUIRED

___ Request any needed accommodations (including testing) and submit documentation with the Goldman Center for Student Accessibility.

___ Review the Spring 2020 Schedule of Classes.

___ Schedule an appointment with your academic advisor to plan your course schedule prior to registration. Spring Scholar registration will occur October 30 – November 1. Transfer student registration will begin November 4. Contact the Advising Center at or 504-865-5798. REQUIRED

___ Become familiar with Tulane’s Core Curriculum – requirements all students must fulfill to graduate.

___ Review Tulane’s comprehensive list of majors and minors. There are over 80 to explore!

___ Review the Tulane University Code of Academic Conduct. REQUIRED

Student Resources & Support Services:

___ Review the Code of Student Conduct and familiarize yourself with the student responsibilities in the Code. REQUIRED

___ View the first-year support video from Case Management & Victim Support Services before your arrival to campus. REQUIRED

Campus Health:

___ January 13: Deadline to complete the mandatory online health promotion courses. Check your Tulane email for instructions in mid-December. REQUIRED

___ January 15: Deadline to enroll in or opt out of the Tulane-sponsored Health Insurance Plan (T-SHIP). Students must enroll in or waive the insurance once enrolled in classes. Enrollment opens DECEMBER 5. REQUIRED

___ February 1: Deadline to submit your immunization forms and records to The Health Center via Tulane’s Patient Portal. REQUIRED

Housing and Residence Life:

___ November 15: Priority deadline to complete the housing application to request housing on campus. You will be notified via the email address listed on your housing application by mid-December of your housing assignment. Apply as soon as possible starting November 1! Questions? Contact Housing and Residence Life. REQUIRED

___ Review the Housing and Residence Life Community Living Standards. REQUIRED

___ Review the Spring Move-In Guide [available December 1]. REQUIRED

  • January 6 at 10 am: Move-in date for new students participating in Panhellenic Sorority recruitment. Students must be registered for recruitment with the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Programs to check in on this date.
  • January 9 at 10 am: Move-in date for new students not participating in Panhellenic Sorority recruitment.

Campus Services:

___ By December 1: Upload a photograph for your Splash Card (Tulane ID). Pick up your ID from the Campus Services office (Lavin-Bernick Center, Suite 107) when you arrive on campus. REQUIRED

___ Check your email in December for instructions to sign your mail contract. All residential students are assigned a campus mailbox. REQUIRED

___ By January 25: Sign up for your meal plan. Review the meal plan options here. First-year residential students are able to select the Unlimited, TU 15, or Kosher meal plan.

___ Transfer Students: Purchase a parking permit through Tulane Parking Services Office if you will have a car on campus. [Only applies to transfer students classified as upperclassmen]

Orientation & Campus Involvement:

___ Register for Spring Orientation. Detailed information about Spring Orientation will be emailed to your Tulane email address after registration. REQUIRED

  • January 7: Orientation for students participating in Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment
  • January 10: Orientation for students not participating in Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment

___ November 1: Indicate your interest in Spring 2020 Fraternity and Sorority Recruitment.

___ December 19 at 5pm CST: Deadline to register for 2020 Panhellenic Sorority recruitment.

___ January 11 – 13: Join the orientation staff and other new students for the NOLA Experience Program. Sign up online beginning November 1.

___ Check out the list student organizations and browse campus events on WaveSync.

___ Late January: Attend the Spring Activities Expo to get involved in the multitude of student organizations on campus! Check out WaveSync for more information on the time and location!

___ Visit our First-Year Involvement Opportunities web page to learn about Tulane’s many peer mentor programs available for new students.


___ Order your textbooks through Gibson Online from the Barnes & Noble campus university bookstore once you have registered for classes. You can have your books shipped home or pick them up in January.

___ Order your college computer and technology accessories through our on-campus computer store, Technology Connection. Get access to educational discounts, on-site repair, and more when you purchase from Technology Connection. Check for special computer bundles and pricing specifically for students entering this spring.

___ Check out on-campus jobs through Tulane’s College Central Network. Remember to bring original documents to campus to complete your I-9. Visit Student Employment’s website for more information.

___ Download Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, One Note and 1 terabyte of storage space) for FREE for your laptop or PC. Students have access to all software and storage while enrolled at Tulane.

___ Get connected by downloading our campus apps! Skip the lines with TU Go by Tulane University, our campus mobile ordering app that lets you to order and pay for your meals on the go. Tulane Bookstore gives you access to special promotions and exclusive discounts at our campus bookstores. Download TapRide to access our late-night, on-demand transportation services and Passio Go to view shuttle schedules, routes, and track your bus right from your phone.
